The flights back

I don't like flying with United. They just aren't very good. Our flight was quite packed from NY to SF. Full up. We didn't even get seats together! I was on the aisle seat next to an old couple. I attempted to read the book I got assigned to read for Social Studies.... but after 20 pages, I just couldn't do it. I dozed off for 45 minutes. Otherwise, I did some math and science work and ate a lot of sunflower seeds. This time at least, they came around with drinks (last time you had to ask otherwise you wouldn't get anything on the flight).
Next was the flight to Auckland. After getting totally lost in the San Francisco airport (that things is huge), we got to our gate. Hooray. This time we managed to get seats together. It was a flight in a plane, yup. We were on a Boeing 777 instead of the 747 like last time. The 747 has 4 engines (I think) and a second story, while the 777 has 2 engines and one story. We got great seats. We were situated at the front of the Economy section, so instead of having seats in front of us, there was a wall. It seemed like we had more leg space. It was pretty good, aside from being quite cold. When we started to leave, the curtains to the other classes were closed and a panel closed the small gap in between a wall. There was also some funky light that my sister said looked like "no karaoke". Wacky.
We got to Auckland and to typical NZ weather. Wind and rain. We had to declare all our food to customs. We all had sunflower seeds (roasted) and various other foods. Then we spent ages at the domestic transfer queue... fun fun. We took the free inter-terminal shuttle and then later boarded our respective flight.
Then we came home the end.

I am now feeling tired and ground keeps moving aaaaahhhhh make it stop!!

Back home!

Back home. It's cold and eerily quiet. New Zealand is a bit scary now.

Sunday in NYC

Today has really made me wonder what my life would be like if I had stayed and lived here in New York. Ah well, I like it back home. I like to live in a house with a backyard and the river behind us. But there's also something nice about living in a big building that your friends live in too...

To start off, I had a wacky dream. I was flying around and had neat powers. I could do some hand gestures and make things explode. Awesome. I was walking, er, hovering around some old looking place (or was that another dream) and I was cutting up monsters with flicks of my wrist. There was a horse made of lava that I had trouble exploding with my mind, so I tried slashing it up a bit. I can't remember what happened, but something Pokemon-related happened and as my dreams usually do, it descended into incomprehensibility. I woke up.
I sat around this morning after getting up. Ana luckily did not drink too much (or at all?) last night. She went our with friends (again).
My mom, dad and I went to the Museum of Modern Art. It was filled with bizarre art. I am not a friend of modern art. There is lots of it in the apartment I'm staying at, and there is maybe one or two that I think look alright. These things are probably worth thousands of dollars... I can't imagine why at all. The weirdest one is still a cat with a cart in it on top of buildings and the clown in there. I think I got a picture. It's really just bizarre.
Anyway, onto the art in the museum. We went to the top floor and there was weird art. Most of it was stuff with scribbles and letters. There was a bunch of nylon strings hanging from the ceiling. Weird. I think it was on this floor where there were a bunch of stick attached together by wire. It was bizarre.
The next floors had some more well known artists. There was a few of Picasso's paintings which were... bizarre. There was someone called Frida who my dad said was famous. Her paintings were pretty good actually. There was a room which was filled with paintings with lines and some coloured in squares. Another painting I saw was a white square with a slightly different shade of white to the background. I really don't get it. An interesting room was one that had measurements of the entrance and other things in it. It was appropriately named "Measurement Room". A common sign around the place was "The occupation of more than x persons is dangerous and unlawful", but in red and with capital letters.
We left, and started to walk back to our apartment because we couldn't catch a cab. A few dozen passed us, but they were all occupied! Our walk back took about 45 minutes. Crazy. I also had, and still have, an overwhelming desire to press a button at the pedestrian crossing. All of them are always on, unlike in NZ. There have an orange hand for 'stop' and a person walking for 'walk'.
After a while, we finally got back. Then we went down to the playground and barbecue area (beats me what the name is) cause it was a Serbian kid's birthday. We played hide and go seek tag again. We had access to the buildings this time, but the doormen told us off. The boys kept cheating and making excuses when they were tagged. Mean boys :< Even so, it was pretty cool. Me and two other girls were playing in the play ground a bit, and Ana came back from wherever she went. It was quite fun, and that's what really made me wonder what it would be like to still be living there.
It all finished up, and we went back to the apartment. Now I had to endure another long trip back home... arg :s I just hope my foot survives. My right foot hurt a bunch when I watched over to the kitchen. Walking so much and running around must make my feet sore, heh.
Well, hope everyone is doing well. I'll be seeing you all on Thursday :3 Look for for messages on Wednesday though. I'll be back by 8am or so!

Saturday in NYC

Brum~~~~
Uh..
Anyway... here's the entry.

I woke up, and my sister was in her bed (we are in the same room). She went out with friends, and apparently came back at 4:30 (I was asleep at the time). She had a bit too much to drink... and was hung over all morning. Good work Ana! She didn't join us when we went out at around 2 or 3 pm.
We took a cab to Central Park. It's a big park in Manhattan. Lots of tress and some baseball fields, a big playground... it's huge. There are some little lakes, and one of them has a few ducks. Only a few, unlike the pond at the Square with a trillion ducks and other birds. There was a cute turtle trying to climb up onto a floating piece of wood, but the ducks bumped it. Poor turtle. By the way, someone was selling baby turtles for 50c in China town. Poor things were stuffed in a container.
Anyway, we walked around a bit, I got a big pretzel and later on a popsicle called "mega missile". It was yum. Also, the lakes there are quite dirty. I think they were shooting a commercial by the water fountain. There were cheerleaders dressed in red and a mascot shaped like a TV and they all yelled "Tivo!" or something. Anyway, we left.
We next went to a big toy store called FAO Schwarz. There were lots of cute toys :3 Next to the store was the Apple store, which is actually underground. Above ground is a big glass.. case(?) around the stair case and elevator. The elevator was round. It was neat, I guess. The shop had... gasp.. Apples. Royal Gala, Pacific rose.. you name it!
Just kidding.
We walked to a Borders, but it didn't have what I wanted :( We took a cab to the Borders next to Madison Square Garden. I got the first FMA artbook and also some FMA character profile book. Yay~~ I'll start collecting the manga back in NZ :3 We then walked to Grand Central Station, and I think it was then were some girl on the street said "your shirt is so cute!" to me. It's my RAA GRR t-shirt. It's cool~~ My dad also bought some item of clothing on the way.
Grand Central Station is pretty cool. Part of it has really high ceilings and these massive, beautiful chandeliers. Part of it also had stars with constellations marked out and pictures drawn from them! Inside are shops, and dad went to the Swatch shop to get something. We then finally got back to the apartment after lots of walking. Believe me, it was a lot!
We then went almost an hour later to a little barbecue with a Seriban family at the Rockefeller faculty club. The food was nice~~ Then we came back!

You know, I think I'm forgetting important details...
Happy Birthday to Kate too!

Friday in NYC

On before 12am, yay~

Today I got up late as usual, waited ages, then went to the Museum of Natural History. It was neat. We saw some fake animals, pre historic tools and other things from... back then? There was a "Hall of Human Origins" with old hominids and stuff about them. There was also a meteorite hall, which had lots of meteorites. They also had the biggest meteorite on display in a museum! I took pictures, of course. I'll upload them eventually...
We went to the hall of ocean life, which had a big blue whale (fake of course) in the middle! They had other stuff there too, like a giant squid attached to the head of a whale. Pretty impressive. We also saw dinosaur skeletons! There we lots, and some you could touch! Cool. I can't remember all the dinosaurs, but there was a T-rex, Stegosaurus (gao gao stegosaurus), Triceratops... There was a Stegosaurus plate you could touch, you know, the things that stick up off its back. I'll put a picture up eventually. There were some ooolllddd animal skeletons too.
Mom, Ana and I got those big pretzels from a stand (lots of those and other snack stands in Manhattan, they're everywhere!) and we went on a taxi. I was going to my freind Ambika's place. She's a friend of mine from when I was in pre-school, and we got to meet up! The taxi driver also had an Umbreon plushie, just like mine! It was a little worn out though.
Anyway, we got to Ambika's apartment, and I saw her, yay. I showed her the pictures I took, then we went out. We walked to Central Park (not as far away as I expected), and I saw the park. We then went to "California Pizza Kitchen", and had a pizza for dinner. Yum. Went then walked back to her place, and my mom came to pick me up.
We then went to Rockefeller University, to the "Faculty Club"? That's the place where my mom used to work at, and also the place where I went to pre-school. There were some little Serbian kids (though one is apparently half a year younger than me, though he looks 10) who spoke in Serbian to each other and English. I joined in with them as they played hide and go seek tag. We ran a lot. I mean A LOT! Sprinting sometime too! I got really tired, and another girl joined in. She's 12, and I think her name is Katarina. She's really tall! Taller than me! Anyway, after running around with the 4 little kids (they were between 9 and 13, but still) and one bigger girl, I saw down and drank some Sprite. Refreshing~~ Katarina came, and we talked for a while and tried to hear each other over the noise of the other people there. A bunch of guys started cherring cause the Yankees won some baseball game being displayed on the TV there.
We left at sometime after 11! We went there sometime between 8 and 9, so that was a while, Katarina and one of the other kids live in the same building as the one we're staying at, and I think we're going to a barbeque on Sunday.

Phew, that was tiring! We walked around the museum for 3 hours(and still only saw a little of it), I walked more, and then ran around for an hour! I'd say that's decent exercise.
I think we're gonna do some shopping tomorrow. I hope to bring back delicious snacks from America (especially sunflower seeds!!), buy cheap souvenirs, get the other FMA artbook from Borders and start collecting the FMA manga(!!), and... that's it.

Hope everyone everywhere is doing great!! Only a few more days here.

Thursday in NYC

If only I could get online at a time before 12:30am... oh well.
After sleeping in and chilling out till about 3pm, we finally left the apartment and went to the Air Force musuem (or whatever it is called). The museum is the aircraft carrier Intrepid or something like that. We didn't see a whole lot because it closed at 5pm and dad seemed to think the actual ship and all that historic stuff was "boring". Anyway, got a whole bunch of photos of old planes and stuff. Also went on some "cosmic coaster" virtual ride - "in 4D"! We sat in some chairs that vibrated and moved around a little, and we also had the 3D glasses. It was wacky. IT was set in space and it was a roller coaster. It went of the rail a few times too. That gave me a little scare. The school kids behind us were screaming the whole time. You'd think I would freak out, but I was quiet. Anyway, we left soon after as it closed.
We then went to a resturaunt with asian foods and I got some sushi. It was an interesting "New Yorker" roll with salmon, lettuce, tomato, cream cheese and stuff around the outside, like the stuff you'd find on an everything bagel. Also tried some sushi with some fish in it... It was gross! I spent the rest of the time gnawing on ice.
We then went walking around, and we went to the Nintendo Center and I got cute stuff, yay. I got an Umbreon plushie, Palkia plushie, Darkrai figurine and a Suicune figure. If you haven't figured it out already, Suicune is my favourite Pokemon. You may not have noticed, but it is in my MSN email, AIM screen name, various forum names...
Anyway, we then pretty much went back. That's it. We got back around 8pm. Seriously. That took ages.
We pretty much chilled. Yup. Now I'm online. Exciting stuff.

Some other things...
At the drugstore, the shaving blades are behind the counter with the cigarettes. The beer isn't.
Rush hour is crazy. 6 lanes packed with cars. It is more worthwhile to walk.
You can't have peace in Manhattan. You always hear honking on the streets (despite the signs saying "Don't honk $350 fine") and sirens are blaring often. Sometimes people will yell at each other from their cars.
No one uses spray on deodourant much. It's about the roll on. If only people in NZ would do that. You girls know what I mean but not being able to BREATHE in the changing rooms...

It is interesting walking the streets. Really, it is. My dad has lots of amusing stories which I would type about if I had time, but really. It's interesting.

Wednesday in NYC

My memory is so poor I may have already forgotten stuff. This is why I need a blog. All the memories just tumble out there to... uh... I dunno.

So I woke up, and tried Cinnamon Toast Crunch. It was good for a while, but the whole bowl of the stuff just made me feel queasy. I will have Trix tomorrow maybe.
I pretty much sat around (didn't get up particularly early) and then my dad and I went to New Jersey. A Serbian person we knew took us there, and we visited my dad's old work, a company called Zepter. There seemed to be few Serbian people there. It felt like I was walking in my house. Zepter make pots and other stuff, so we have a bunch of Zepter pots at home. Also, a Zepter clock, which I saw on the wall! Wacky.
We then went to some shopping mall and my dad got stuff in TJ Maxx. Yup.
On the way back, I saw some signs on the buildings that said "Fallout Shelter". Hmm. Also saw a carp streamer hanging from a balcony, despite Children's Day having been over a week ago.
We went to a Japanese resturaunt for dinner. The food was okay. On the way back, I saw dozens of bags of trash on the sides of streets. Rubbish day, apparently. We also saw some Serbian people, and they have a dog that looks like Zorro but a little smaller! The dog's name is Gara.

I'm sure I had more to say, but I forgot, etc.
Some ask Mr Flynn how many pages I need to do in my math homework book (and don't accept "all of algebra" as an answer, unless we'll finish it all in the 6 periods I miss).

Tuesday in NYC

I should talk about the cabs, cause I forgot about it in the last post. I think that nearly every other car is a cab. There are TONS of them. I could count 16 at one point, and that was only in front of the cab I was in! They also have some funky screens at the back that have maps and ads. Quite flash.
Anyway, today we had to move from our apartment. It was a tiny one, and some friends of ours who have gone away to some place let us stay in theirs. Cool. It is very flash and filled with paintings (which in my opinion, look bad). Modern art is wacky. Though apparently there's a painting of Picaso's in here...
My sister an I spent ages waiting for my dad to stop sleeping (he spends a lot of time sleeping) and around 1pm we finally left.
We took a cab to the corner of Canal street and Mott... street? It was in China town which had a lot of Chinese stores. My dad was hunting for sunglasses, so we stopped occasionally to check some out. He didn't find any in China town. There was supposedly an anime store that Ana found a picture of, but it was not there. There was supposedly a store called Canal Jeans, but Ana couldn't find it and my dad got annoyed. So we walked around and Ana and I got a t-shirt each (will show a picture of it later). We then took a cab to ground zero, which was where the WTC (Twin towers) used to be. My dad for some reason wanted to get a photo of the... nothingness. Anyway, we got some sushi, and we went to a depertment store called "Century 21" because they had sunglasses. Dad spent ages in there, and finally picked a pair. We then went ton the subway.
Dad was against this. We went anyway so I could see it. If I had ever been on it, I would have not remembered at all. It was smelly and not particularly clean. We spent aaaages trying to find the right place to be, and finally got on the... train? and went on. We got someplace and went to an anime store.
This was something I'd been awaiting eagerly! There were playing anime music in the store. Is it bad that I recognised all but one song that played? Well, anyway, I bought stuff. I got a C.C. cellphone charm, a little Rolo clip-thing, a little figure of Tsukasu from Lucky Star (it was a random draw), Tieria from Gundam 00 (another random draw) and a Fullmetal Alchemist bag! Sorry Danae, they didn't have the Roy Mustang figurine :( I got you a keychain of him if you want it though, and a Ryuk keychain for Steph if she wants it. If not, more for me~~
We then went to Borders and... I got a FMA art book! It rocks. We then went to some health store where my dad bought stuff. Then we went back to the apartment.
We pretty much chilled, then went to watch American Idol! Except we were disturbed by some visitors (urg). Oh well. Still managed to sort of hear them sing.
Then we had dinner and I got to practice piano! That was cool. The piano is on the 38th floor of the building. Well, it's two buildings joined together. One is 26 floors, then other is 38. Hooray.

Pictures will come sometime later when I remember.

Monday in NYC

Phew! Monday was action packed... or something.
We got up in the morning, and my parents went somewhere. Ana and I ate food. I had a big bowl full right to the brim of Trix! A colourful cereal that we don't have in NZ.
Afterwards, stuff happened (it was yesterday, how can I remember that well?) and my dad, sister and I went out of the building and onto the streets to see what we could find. What we found was... I dunno, I forgot.
New York is really really big. Manhattan (where we are) is bigbigbig. Our city at home is... well, compared to Manhattan, you could hardly call it a city. There are stores everywhere EVERYWHERE! They seem to go on forever to me...
We saw the hospital I was born at, when to the floor 86 observatory at the Empire State Building (great view!), saw the United Nations building... I can't remember what else! Really, my memory is so poor. Maybe when I upload pictures sometime, I'll figure it out.
Ooo, we ate food. Yup. New York pizza is delicious~~ nom nom~~
Oh! We went to watch the Star Trek movie at 9pm. Ana and I ended up having dinner at quarter to 12 :D Then I chatted to some of you guys! Woo! Then went to sleep.

Really, my memory is too poor... Well, I remember more stuff about today, so that blog entry should be bigger and better!
Also, excuse any wacky typos and such. I'm using my sister's laptop, and it does really wacky things. Wacky.

The Flight - Sunday/Monday

So this will have info about my flight(s).
The flight to Auckland had turbulence and such. It was okay. My dad met one of his collegues who was on the flight.
We got there and I was texting Steph while waiting for Ana's flight to arrive. It was supposed to come at 5:50pm, but it arrive around 6:20pm. You could say we were almost late to our next flight (7:15pm). There was a free internet access point there, but I didn't find it until too late. We walked around the airport in what seemed to be a spiral. Our bags got x-rayed.We boarded, and so began our long flight.
We spent about 20 minutes sitting in the plane being briefed about safety and such. It seems that people in business premier got "ottomans", which are fancy footstools. We were not fortunate enough to get those as we were in economy.
The flight was about two and half hours long. There were screens at the back of the seats which played music, movies, had games, and also an "airshow". From the airshow, I found out that our distance we traveled was 10559km. The outside temperature while in the air varied from 45C to 58C. The highest altitude we got to was 11887m. Fastest ground speed was 933km/h.
Airline food is surprisinly filling! Ana ate a lot. Dad couldn't eat his "low-lactose meal" as he can't eat.. lots of things. Anyway, Ana ate most of it AND her meal. I could barely eat half of mine. I was just TOO FULL!
The plane was hot (I could sit around in a t-shirt), but the crew made it cooler. Sadly, the seat was still hot from being SAT ON for ELEVEN HOURS so I couldn't sleep for more than an hour. It was a combination of that and it being quite uncomfortable.
We FINALLY arrived in the past and got our finger prints taken. Our suitcases went through the x-ray machine and then we chilled out in the Los Angeles airport. That airport is huge . We had to take a bus to the next terminal (filled with rubbish amoungst the seats in the waiting area), and to get our stuff x-rayed again. Shoes too! Anyway, three hours later, we got on the plane. I read "The Last Watch" and marvelled at how it was the afternoon in NZ. We arrived at 11:45pm and went to the building.

Monday post coming soon...

Finally Here!

Well, I'm finally in New York! It took ages, and we got there at about 11:45pm on Sunday (NY time). Will make a big post about the flights sooner or later.

Hope everyone in the future is enjoying their Tuesday and that those still in Monday are all doing well.

I hope I have not forgotten anything. Still semi-packing.
Seeyall later~

Itinerary

This would probably be useful. Times will be in NZ time (UCT +12) and also whatever is the local time. Bold is the local time/date.

~ Flight to Auckland - Sunday 10 May. Leave 3:55pm, arrive at 5pm.
~ Flight to Los Angeles. 12 hours (oh dear). Leave at 7:15pm on Sunday 10 May, arrive in LA at 7:15am on Monday 11 May (NZ time). In LA time, arriving at 12:15pm on Sunday 10 May. Woah, time travel.
~Flight to New York. Leaves at
3:56pm (LA, Sun 10), 10:56am (NZ, Mon 11) and 6:56pm (NY, Sun 10, I think!). Arrives at 12:15am (NY, Mon 11) and 4:15pm (NZ, Mon 11).
Geez, that's craaaazy!

Now going back. After looking at the dates, I wondered what happened to the 19th of May. Maybe I will find out after converting the times.

~Flight to San Francisco - Monday 18 May. Leaves at 2:59pm (NY, Mon 18), 6:59am (NZ, Tues 19), 11:59am (San Fracisco (SF?), Mon 18). Arrives at 6:26pm (SF, Mon 18), 1:26pm (NZ, Tues 19), 9:26pm (NY, Mon 18).
~Flight to Auckland. Leaves at 9pm (SF, Mon 18), 4pm (NZ, Tues 19). Arrives at 5:15am (NZ, Wed 20), 11:15am (SF, Tues 19).
~Flight home! Wednesday 20 May. Leaves at 6:50am, arrives at 7:55am.

In conclusion, too much time is spent traveling. It's more like 7 days in NY than 10! I feel cheated out of a Tuesday.
Despite arriving early in NZ on the Wednesday, I don't think I will go to school. That day will have to be the replacement (albeit a poor one) for Tuesday.

I'm sure that was confusing as hell.

Woah

Woah, a blog.
So here I am blogging with a blog. This will (maybe?) contain blog posts about my upcoming trip to New York. It will hopefully help me to remember what I have done on the trip in a few years time when I would have forgotten stuff.
I don't know what else to do, so here are some cute puppies.

Aren't they adorable?
